SAPF is committed in keeping its members informed about current exhibitions and photographic events, both internal and external, which may be  of interest to view, participate in or in other ways be of benefit to members.

Internal exhibitions and events include the SAPF Annual Exhibition, Audio-Visual Annual, SAPF courses and workshops and any other exhibition or events held by affiliated clubs or individual members.

The SAPF receives numerous notifications of a variety of photographic competitions, exhibitions and other photographically related events.

Please check the ‘Events’ menu of this website for the current list of upcoming events in this category.

SAPF Annual Exhibition

The SAPF conducts one major photographic exhibition each year.  Its main purpose is to encourage members to compete, display and promote their club and amateur photography in South Australia.

The exhibition is run by SAPF members who volunteer for the subcommittee planning the exhibition.  A call for volunteers is sent out following the end of the current exhibition as work on the next exhibition must commence twelve months in advance.  There is a SAPF Annual procedure manual in place for guidance in conducting the exhibition.

Top awards are offered in all sections of the competition as well as the overall winners.  Trophies are presented to award winners during the official opening of the exhibition.

From this exhibition a selection of colour and monochrome prints and digital images are selected for the annual Australian Interstate Photographic Competition [AIPC] conducted by APS as a part of APSCON [annual convention].

Other Exhibitions

Apart from the Audio-Visual Club holding it own annual exhibition, it also conducts the Biennial International AV competition – AV Fest.  This is a most prestigious event and members are encouraged to attend one of several days of judging and workshops which usually are open to general attendance.

Several regional clubs have been involved in conducting their own major exhibitions namely Port Lincoln with the ‘Exhilaration on Eyre’ exhibition and Whyalla Photographic Group with their first exhibition in 2013.

Over the last few years the Noarlunga and Southern Districts Camera Club have conducted an annual Photography Expo where an invitation is open to all clubs to display their members work and offer prints for sale as well as calendars, postcards etc.  SAPF usually has a promotional presence to guide public interest in camera club opportunities.  Every second year this Expo coincides with the biennial Shimmer Festival.

National and International Exhibitions

FIAP                       Sydney

Australia has several national and internationally run exhibitions.

The Royal Adelaide Show National Photographic Exhibition attracts many local photographers.  Acceptances for this and other national exhibitions attract points towards APS honours.

Amongst the international exhibitions are Maitland International and Vigex Biennial. There is also the Sydney Harbour International and SIEP {Sydney International Exhibition of Photography].

APS routinely send out list sof upcoming exhibitions and these will be posted under external ‘events’.

If members wish to explore further international options for exhibiting, go to the FIAP site of endorsed exhibition listings.

Courses and Workshops

SAPF conducts courses in  Beginners Photography  and post processing including both Photoshop Basics and Lightroom Introductory programmes.  Judging courses are also available.

These courses are conducted when demand makes it necessary and tutors are available.

As courses become available, notice will be placed in Courses and Workshops under the Events menu and a layout of topics to be covered will be included for download.

All enquiries and bookings are to be made through the SAPF Course Co-ordinator at sapfcoursecoordinator@gmail.com

Light on the Land

The Light on the Land series of one day and longer workshops, are aimed at amateur photographers from the beginner to the experienced.  Workshop content is tailored to the experience levels of the workshop participants.  Users of DSLR cameras will be provided with creative opportunities to develop their photographic skills in a range of subjects, with a focus on portraiture and landscape photography.

Presented by Keith Seidel and Lou Marafioti, the workshops offer fieldwork, exercises and image review and evaluation sessions.

Both presenters believe there are no rules to photography and these workshops are based on testing your ideas with useful tips borne from experience of what works in different situations.

Notice for these workshops with registration forms, can be found under the ‘events’ menu.
