Focused Newsletter February 2022

The Management Committee (MC) of the SAPF is keen to open communication channels to enable a closer working relationship with all affiliated clubs.

In 2020 we entered uncharted waters when Covid hit and since then many clubs have struggled to maintain club activities and membership numbers in the face of the ever-changing challenges that Covid presented.

Whilst some clubs have struggled to maintain activities and hold face to face meetings, others have been able to adopt new technologies like Zoom initially to continue to operate and provide services to members. Several clubs recommenced face to face meetings as soon as they were allowed under SA Health Covid Safe Plan. In fact, some have even prospered with increased membership over the last two years.

We are certainly mindful that Covid has presented challenges for our aged membership. The MC believes that by working together with all clubs we can be the catalyst to encourage a cross-pollination of ideas for the benefit of all clubs.

We have had a busy three months since the AGM on September 21 with the added challenge of having a completely new MC.

The MC would like to pass on their sincere thanks to the outgoing committee for their dedication and commitment over the past few years. Special thanks also to Jackie Allender and Terry Mosel whose support and efforts were greatly appreciated that ensured a smooth transition of responsibilities to the new committee. Jackie also agreed to finalise the 2021 financial accounts for auditing that she has just completed.

We faced a couple of unexpected challenges first up when the Hamra Centre decided not to allow us to hold our Exhibition & Awards Night at Hamra, and then the Myer Centre preferred commercial tenants occupying the entry area due to continuing difficult trading conditions over the SAPF Exhibition.

The SAPF Annual Exhibition Awards Night will now be staged at the Burnside Civic Centre, Tusmore on Thursday 19th May 2022. The Exhibition will be on display for 4 weeks. The Exhibition will then move to the new Port Adelaide Plaza Shopping Centre and will be on show from Sunday 26th June to Sunday 10th July. The website has complete details.

Covid Vaccination Update

Several clubs have approached the MC seeking advice regarding introducing the requirement of mandatory vaccinations for all members and visitors at club meetings.

The MC is not able to dictate to affiliated clubs in this respect. That said, it’s up to individual clubs who are separate Incorporated entities to implement such a requirement should they wish.

Several metropolitan and country clubs have passed resolutions at their respective AGM’s adopting proof of vaccination as an entry requirement for all members and visitors at any club event.

Club Survey

As mentioned earlier the MC is keen to support all clubs in these difficult times and to that purpose, there is attached a short survey that we would appreciate all clubs completing and returning by Friday 4th March 2022. We are keen to see what impact Covid has had on our affiliated clubs and your responses will be the catalyst for the MC to assist where possible.
