This workshop is an opportunity to learn from one of South Australia’s most experienced landscape photographers. The workshop will help you understand what constitutes excellent landscape photography and how to achieve these images with your DSLR or mirrorless camera from both a camera management and artistic viewpoint. The program includes some basic post-production techniques using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. A practical session is included in Session 1 allowing you to practise what you have learnt, while Session 2 provides the opportunity to have feedback on your work. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. Beginners with a working knowledge of their camera are welcome. This program is not aimed at photography with a mobile phone.
The Tutor – Peter Barrien. FAPS EFIAP
Peter is an experienced landscape photographer who has often presented to South Australian Camera Clubs. He is a regular winner of the Adelaide Camera Club’s landscape trophies and has been twice a finalist in the biannual Heysen Landscape prize. He is also a SAPF Judge.
Requirements
A basic knowledge of the exposure triangle. Simple explanations of this are available on YouTube.For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2HSoOq-rfo
Camera.
Lenses—covering the range from 16 mm to 105mm, with a longer lens if available.
Tripod.
ND or graduated ND filters, if available.
Remote shutter release, if available.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing to suit the weather conditions.
Session 1:
Location: Room 1, Cove Civic Centre, 1 Ragmuffin Drive, Hallett Cove.
Time:12.30 pm to 4 pm
Part One
This session will cover:
What constitutes excellent landscape images
Finding good locations for landscape photography
Using light and composition
Post-production techniques and workflow
Part Two
Location: Port Willunga Beach
Time: 4 pm to 6 pm
A sunset seascape photoshoot
Participants are expected to carpool, where practical, to and from Port Willunga and return to Hallett Cove at the end of the photoshoot.
Following the photo shoot, the Tutor and SAPF Course Coordinator invite you to a casual meal at Cativa Cacina, located in the Hallett Cove Shopping Centre. Please indicate your interest in this by completing the appropriate field in your enrolment form. This will assist greatly with bookings.
Session 2
Location: Meeting Room 1, State Library of SA, North Terrace, Adelaide
Time: 1 pm to 4 pm
For this session, please bring four images on a USB stick that you took during the practical session for presentation and peer review. Please include the original raw file as well as the processed version. You will find this session very constructive and valuable.
Cost
$100 per person.
In session one at the Cove Civic Centre, free tea and coffee making facilities are available and a light afternoon tea will be provided. Lunch is not provided. Multiple food outlets are available in the nearby Hallett Cove Shopping Centre. In session two at the State Library, coffee breaks and lunch are at the participant’s own expense. A café is located on the ground floor of the State Library.
